DR. LAVERN MCCANTS IS THE I WILL ACHIEVE AUTHOR™
The 4-time award-winning writer, Dr. LaVern McCants is a scholar that provides data-driven scholarly writing. She is also a School Improvement Consultant with an education reform approach. McCants is also a motivational speaker with a focus on educational change instead of blame. She has been quoted saying “instead of making excuses, it is essential to find solutions.” She speaks very highly of educators and writes on sound findings of the works and findings of educators as a whole. McCants writes academic and scholarly publications, but she also has written books from other genres deemed as excellent reads. Some of her best academic and scholarly publications to date are the upcoming publications, The School That Passed the Test, Proven Strategies to Increase Parental Involvement in K-12 Schools and The Secrets of High-Performing Schools.
McCants’ inception of writing books started in the early 1990s close to the completion of her first master’s. After the completion of her first thesis, her research focus influenced her to dive deeper into issues of varied widespread educational issues and to do additional research. She returned to school and sought another master’s in education. Her second master’s is in educational leadership. Upon the completion of her second master’s, she gained an unyielding passion to become a School Improvement Consultant. She left the traditional educational field after decades in traditional K-12 settings and became a School Improvement Consultant and decided to continue her education and pursue a doctorate in education.
McCants' varied experiences and unyielding passion to ensure that all students gain unlimited educational opportunities had a significant influence on her departure from traditional educational environments to becoming a School Improvement Consultant. According to McCants, “ as a School Improvement Consultant, I can create an environment where there are no walls, no rules, no policies in place, but instead massive space for growth for any school leader or teacher that desires to be as creative as they desire in their craft to help adolescents advance." She believes that most teachers and educational leaders possess caring attributes about the advancements for their students, and many consistently make it a practice to provide improvements. McCants’ motto is, “let’s stop making excuses and find solutions.” Dr. McCants elaborates on this issue and more with some amazing solutions in her upcoming 2020 and 2021 book releases for school administrators, teachers, and college students.
As a School Improvement Consultant, McCants offers unique contributions from her vast experiences. In K-12 educational environments, she has served on school improvement committees in both high-performing educational environments and low-performing educational environments, which broaden her understanding of common patterns in low-performing educational environments and consistent patterns of high performance in high-performing environments.
She says that she has worked with instrumental and effective educational leaders in both sorts of environments. According to McCants, she has also had extremely outstanding professors during her doctoral and graduate studies, which broaden her understanding of the essentials to ensure that any school environment, no matter its present status of how the school is presently labeled, can become a high-performing school. McCants is extremely humble about her broad understanding and keen knowledge of widespread educational issues. She often gives many accolades to the individuals that molded her in the field of education. McCants says that "good leaders learn from great leaders." McCants says that she has been both fortunate and blessed to have had countless opportunities to learn from many exceptional and extremely knowledgeable educational leaders.
To date, Dr. McCants has written numerous books. She has been writing books for decades. She reaches a diverse reading audience. Her work and her passion for aspiring adolescents to advance has been appreciated by many. Her valuable experience in the field of education; her educational background; her scholarly research, and her exceptional writings provide effectiveness for youth, parents, teachers, and school administrators in today's society.
Dr. McCants holds a Doctor of Education degree and graduated with the distinction of highest honors, which is awarded when individuals obtain the highest level of achievement in academic endeavors. Her academic achievement included a straight-A student on the doctoral level that led to graduating with a Doctor of Education degree with a 4.0 on a 4.0 grading scale from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. McCants also holds two master's degrees in education. One master's degree is in educational leadership and the other master's degree is in education. She holds a bachelor's degree in a field unrelated to education with a double concentration.
Dr. McCants is a member of two honor societies. She is a member of the invitation-only Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, which is the nation's most selective and only all-discipline collegiate honor society. She is also a member of the Pi Lambda Theta Honor Society. Pi Lambda Theta Honor Society is a prestigious honor society that chooses outstanding pre-service and practicing educators to partake in their honor society. Pi Lambda Theta Honor Society seeks to elevate the profession of education by selecting high-achievers that elect education as a career. Also, while a student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, McCants was nominated by the College of Education to serve on the advisory board for the Office of the Provost, which is one of the highest offices at both large and small universities. The Provost Office at most universities is responsible for the development, implementation, assessment, and improvement of all academic programs and policies.
McCants worked in the field of education in a variety of roles of great importance in both traditional and alternative educational settings and as an educational consultant. To add to Dr. McCants' recognition in the field of education, she received nominations for both the Golden Apple Award and Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.
She has worked on the pre-school, elementary, junior high, and high school levels. She served on numerous school improvement committees in several K-12 school districts and has received school improvement training at a high-performing K-12 school district. Being a life-learner, but no longer pursuing a career in traditional educational settings, McCants currently inspires adolescents to follow their passions through her books and on global stages. However, she takes a realistic approach to ensure preparedness for adolescents as they prepare to face the demands of our society.
